Top 5 Questions to Ask Your Dental Implant Provider

Dental implants help to replace a tooth with extensive decay. Such a tooth is not replaceable with a crown or root canal. It is also useful for replacing a broken tooth. In the US, more than 1.9 million Americans have one or more dental implants every year.

Before getting a dental implant, it is important to find the best Kennewick dental implant provider. To do so, you have to interview prospective candidates. Looking for questions to ask your dental implant provider?

Here are 5 questions that will help you choose the best Kennewick dental implant provider.

Dental Implants Kennewick WA

1. What Is a Dental Implant and Why Do People Get Them?

A dental implant is a dental device with a threaded titanium screw that is surgically placed in the jawbone. This technology has enabled the best Kennewick dentist to mount replacement teeth and restore the patient’s smile.

Dental implants have revolutionized dentistry. In the past, patients with missing teeth had to do with dentures. This made it difficult for patients to chew various kinds of foods. But with dental implants, patients can lead a normal life. Not only can they eat solid foods but take drinks as well as maintain high standards of oral hygiene.

There are several reasons why people get implants. It helps to replace a tooth or a series of teeth. With a dental implant in place, patients do not have to struggle with a missing tooth. As such, patients can smile confidently in social functions and without fear.

2. How Long Will the Implants Last and Does the Body Reject the Implants?

Dental implants can last for more than 40 years if the patient maintains high standards of oral hygiene. For patients who brush after every meal, floss and visit Southridge Dental for regular checkups, the dental implants will last a lifetime. Dr. Simper and staff at Southridge Dental can provide suggestions and guidelines to better care for your teeth.

These suggestions are based on your genetic history, nutritional habits, and hygiene procedures. By following the recommendations of Dr. Simper, you have the best chance of ensuring the dental implants last a lifetime.

Dr. Simper has performed many operations to surgically place dental implants in the jaw bone. In all this time, he has yet to encounter a case where a person’s body rejects a dental implant. The few cases that have occurred were as a result of rare allergies to the titanium alloy. Before Dr. Simper carries out the operation, he has to perform a checkup. This checkup helps to establish if your jawbone has enough density to support the dental implant.

There are other considerations which the dentist has to check to ensure that you are the right candidate for dental implants.

3. How Long Does the Implant Process Take and What Is Your Success Rate?

The implant process varies and depends on many factors. But patients can choose 3 one hour sessions spread over 6 to 12 months. If using the traditional implant process, the upper jaw takes 6 months while the lower jaw takes five months.

These sessions include surgeries and the placing of the permanent crown. However, you may find rare cases where the implant process takes a year. The reason why the process may take this long is to allow the jawbone to build up density. Without a strong jawbone, it will be difficult to support the implant.

In such a case, Dr. Simper will perform a bone graft. This helps to strengthen that specific area of the jaw bone. Once this is complete, the implant process will begin. The dentist will place the titanium cylinder surgically to act as an artificial root. To promote integration with the jawbone, the dentist will recommend three to six months of healing.

Dr. Simper success rate has been 99% and this is one of the reasons why he has been recognized with a top 3 Best Dentist and Best Dental Clinic awards in the Tri-Cities. He is the only Kennewick Dentist to place in the top 3 in both categories. At your first appointment, Dr. Simper will conduct an extensive evaluation. This evaluation will help to show if dental implants are the best option. Once the evaluation is a success and everything is ok, the implant process begins.

4. Where and how did you gain your training and education in implant treatment?

Dr. Simper moved to the Tri-Cities area after completing his residency. He opened Southridge Dental and two years later, he won a top 3 spot in the Tri-Cities Best Dentist and Best Dental Clinic People’s Choice Awards.  Having grown up in a family of dentists, Dr. Simper goes above and beyond to offer quality dental services.

He has 15 years of dental experience and lots of training that includes fellowship in the Academy of General Dentistry. Dr. Simper has additional training in Laser Dentistry, Implants, Sleep Apnea, and Invisalign. Thanks to his gentle touch and chairside mannerisms, the dentist makes every patient comfortable during their visit.

Dr. Simper has teamed up with the best staff in the industry. As a team, they put your comfort first.  In fact, he makes Comfort Dentistry a priority at his Kennewick Dental Clinic.

5. Does My Insurance Pay for Implants?

Some insurance providers may partially cover implants. But most carriers do not provide for the surgical placement of the implants. Before the implant process, we recommend checking with your insurance provider. This will enable you to get a detailed look at what’s covered and what is not covered.

At Southridge Dental, our team will complete a complimentary benefits check. This will help to determine the exact coverage for the implant process based on your insurance. To make an appointment at Southridge Dental, our hours of appointment are Monday to Friday from 7 AM to 5 PM.

We also have after hour services to help with dental emergencies.

5 Questions to Ask Before Choosing Your Kennewick Dental Clinic

When in search of the best Kennewick dentist clinic, you are looking for more than a professional to clean your teeth and gums. What you are looking for is the best dentist in the best clinic that can attend to your dental care needs. So, how can you find a good dentist and dental clinic in Kennewick, WA?

The best way to go about this is by preparing a set of questions. These questions will enable you to interview prospective candidates. Want to know which questions to ask a dentist?

1. How Would You Conduct a Dental Exam on a New Patient at Your Dental Clinic?

The first dental appointment can make or break a dentist-patient relationship. Since its a momentous event, the best Kennewick dentist will handle you professionally to ensure that they create an excellent lasting impression.

Here is how your first dental appointment should go.

To launch a long term and mutually beneficial relationship on your first dental appointment, the front desk assistant will welcome you at the dental office. After a warm and enthusiastic welcome, the assistant will explain the services offered and even the rates. While explaining the services and amenities, the assistant will build trust with you.

Before your appointment with the dentist, the front desk assistant will gather typical patient information. This includes personal facts and medical history. When you meet the dentist, he or she will also offer a warm and enthusiastic welcome. This is followed by a comprehensive exam and treatment plan. This will allow you to take advantage of oral health care services on offer.

After the exam, the dentist will arrange the next appointment.

To know if the first dental appointment will be pleasant, here is what you should look for in the dentist’s answer:

  • Welcoming protocol
  • Systematic check on all oral health areas
  • Best chairside mannerisms
  • Attention to detail
  • Professional record-keeping
  • Ability to keep patients comfortable

Remember, if the answer does not satisfy you, move on.

2. Do You Offer a Particular Specialty or Area of Practice Outside General Dentistry?

Dental emergencies occur without warning. You may be walking on the streets enjoying the cool air and sights only to slip and crack a tooth. Alternatively, you may be playing contact sport with friends at the park only to end up with a missing tooth.

The nearest dental practice is an hour or two away. On arrival, nobody around offers clear braces, sedation, crowns or cosmetic dental services. To ensure you can receive the right services, find out what area of practice outside general dentistry is available.

For dental procedures such as oral surgery, cosmetic procedures, and sedation, some patients travel hours to see a dentist in another state. Ask the dentist about any specialized areas of practice.

For instance, do they offer orthodontics, oral surgery, and cosmetic surgery? What forms of pain management do they offer?

Are they recognized for no stress and pain free Comfort Dentistry?

3. Has the Dental Clinic been Recognized by the Community for their Professionalism and Care?

Awards are a fantastic opportunity to celebrate excellence and service delivery. They also build value for your dental practice. Choosing a Kennewick dentist who has won both the Best Dentist and Best Dental Office award assures you of the best treatment.

It also means that the dental clinic has created an atmosphere that makes all patients – new and existing – to feel at home. Simply put, the staff offers a warm and enthusiastic welcome as well as making you feel like family.

This does not mean that a dentist who has yet to win an award does not offer quality dental care. But, an award-winning dental practice that puts your comfort and that of your family first is right for you.

Southridge Dental and Dr. Sean Simper are the only Kennewick Dental Clinic and Kennewick Dentist to be awarded the prestigious People’s Choice award and place in the top 3 for both Best Dentist and Best Dental Clinic.

4. Do You Have Patient Testimonials or References to Contact?

In the digital world, there is plenty of information to research a dentist before scheduling your first appointment. But how can you be sure that the reviews are accurate? Well, ask the dentist for testimonials from existing patients. This should be easy for a Kennewick dentist as the community is close-knit.

Word of mouth from a community member in Kennewick can offer a peek into the dentist’s practice. It is wise to be aware of dental practices with zero patient testimonials. This either means their existing patients have nothing good to say about their experiences. Or, they do not care enough to keep in touch with their patients.

To make sure the testimonials are genuine, ask for five or ten contacts of their existing patients. You can take it a step further and read online reviews. Sites such as Google, Yelp, and BBB provide a platform for users to leave online reviews. These reviews can be helpful and 100% legitimate while others are not.

5. Do You Offer Digital Radiographs and When Is It Necessary?

Advancement in dental technology has enabled dentists to offer better services. One of those advancements is digital radiographs or digital X-rays. This modern technology enables dentists to have a clear image of the entire mouth or tooth decay. These images are of high quality compared to traditional X-ray films. Also, they use less radiation (70% less) compared to traditional X-ray machines.

By having a clear image of small dental problems, the best Kennewick dentist will recommend less costly and non-invasive treatment. Digital X-rays are necessary where certain dental problems have no oral pain or warning signs.

It is also important to ask how often the dentist will take the digital X-rays, and if they are taken before establishing a treatment plan. If digital X-rays are not part of the dentist’s procedure, consider another dentist.

Call the  Kennewick Dentist and Kennewick Dental Clinic Best for Your Family!

5 Questions to Ask Before Choosing Your Kennewick Dentist

When it comes to dental care, it is important to choose the best dentist. Why? The right Kennewick dentist will offer the best tooth care for you and your family. Problem is, doing so is a bit tricky.

What you need to know is that it does not have to be difficult to find the best dentist. To find the right Kennewick dentist, you have to ask the right questions. Here are 5 questions to ask before choosing a dentist.

1. What Areas of Dentistry Do You Specialize In?

When you think of a dentist, you imagine the local dental clinic where the community visits for teeth cleaning and checkups. What you need to know is that the profession of dentistry is much bigger. Asking the dentist his or her area of specialty helps you to know if he or she matches your needs.

If he or she is a family dentist, that means he specializes in taking care of your oral health. Services offered include dental X-rays, regular dental cleaning, restorative oral care, treatment of oral issues and oral care education. For orthodontists, they are concerned with jawbones, misaligned teeth and designing custom oral devices. You also have periodontists which concern the treatment of extreme gum inflammation and pain. This area of specialty also deals in installation of dental implants and performing skin grafts on gums.

Other dental specialties include prosthodontist, endodontist, oral and maxillofacial surgeon. Apart from the area of specialty, consider their work experience. You will feel better learning that the dentist has more than 5 years of hands-on experience.

2. How Long Has the Dentist Been Practicing?

Every Kennewick community member deserves an experienced dentist who is also an upstanding member of the local community. This does not mean that a new practice in the area is not qualified to attend to your oral care needs. Or they don’t have professional staff who are pleasant and ready to assist.

A dentist who has practiced in the area for more than 5 years has assisted many people and maintained long term relationships with patients. As such, it is easier to get a reference from a fellow Kennewick community member in regards to the dentist’s services. Also, it can help you answer other important questions.

Dr. Simper has been practicing dentistry for over 10 years and has the experience, knowledge, technology and chairside manner you are looking for.

For instance, are they kid-friendly? Have any accidents been reported as a result of negligence and unprofessionalism? Does the dentist have good chairside mannerisms? By learning about the practice and the dentist interaction with the community, it can make the difference in your decision.

3. Do You Take Part in Continuing Education Opportunities Beyond State Requirements?

Technology advances very fast and it’s important to keep pace at all times. The right Kennewick dentist should have continuing education policies. This is a good indicator that the dentist is committed to professionalism and quality services. He or she is also committed to improving the dental health and lives of the community.

State requirements for continuing education differ. To ensure the dentist keeps up with the latest trends in dentistry, a regular schedule of yearly continuing education is recommended. This should be backed by a practical application at the dental office as well as the use of the latest technology.

Dr. Simper, for instance, has obtained the prestigious award of fellowship in the Academy of General Dentistry, a status held by less than 5% of dentists nationwide. He is currently working on obtaining Mastership, which less than 1% of dentists hold.

4. Has The Kennewick Dentist been Recognized by the Community for Their Dental Skills?

Many dentists serve their community with dedication and special care. As such, people keep coming back and even telling their family and friends about their experience. For dental practices that go above and beyond to offer quality services to their patients, they deserve more recognition.

Community recognition brings long-lasting benefits. Winners of awards such as Best Dentist and Best Dental Office receive more attention from their patients. They also welcome attention from peers in their profession and the local press.

This goes a long way to establish their practice as a trusted institution. In Kennewick, the only dentist to have won both the Best Dentist and Best Dental office award is Dr. Simper of Southridge Dental.

5. Can the Doctor Fit His or Her Appointment According to My Schedule?

When choosing a Kennewick dentist, it is important to find one who offers appointments that work with your schedule. That means choosing a dental office that offers extended hours and is open on Saturdays too.

It is also important to choose a dentist who can communicate with you in your preferred language. Many dentists are guilty of not being able to communicate in a language that patients can understand. Before choosing a dentist, make sure he or she communicates in a language you understand. This makes it easy for you to learn about your condition and dental procedures.

At Southridge Dental we try to fit your schedule as we can. This includes dental emergencies, which we try and see the same day.

What You Should Know About Kennewick Orthodontic Treatment Services

Kennewick Dentist, Southridge Dental, Now Providing Orthodontic Services

Braces are the most common orthodontic option. They help to correct bite and even straighten the teeth. What many people don’t know is that the field of orthodontics has much more to offer than braces. Orthodontics refers to the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of facial and dental irregularities.

Apart from aligning your teeth, orthodontic treatment creates a balanced facial appearance. How? By making sure that the jaws and teeth are functioning normally. Aren’t we all looking for straight teeth that function better and are easier to clean? How about a beautiful smile?

As said earlier, there are many treatment options in this field of dentistry. Want to know more about orthodontics and the many services that can benefit you.

Read on about orthodontics and its many services.

Palatal Expanders

These are dental devices that create more space in a patient’s mouth. They do so by widening the upper jaw to allow the upper and bottom teeth to fit together. After placement, the patient will experience discomfort and pressure on the roof of the mouth.

As time goes by, the pressure will start to fade. What you need to know is that the palatal expander remains in the mouth for 4 to 6 months. As such, the upper jaw stabilizes. The right age for palatal expanders is between 8 to 13 years.

The palatal expanders help to correct the following situations:

  • Impacted teeth- if the erupting teeth are blocked by other teeth, the situation can be corrected by widening the upper jaw. This problem is common with canines.

  • Crowding – this is a situation where there is a lack of space for the permanent teeth to fit in. If this were to happen, the teeth may be displaced or rotated. This dental issue occurs due to the improper eruption of permanent teeth or late loss of baby teeth.

  • Crossbite – as an oral misalignment, this is where the lower and upper teeth don’t meet correctly. This problem is corrected by expanding the upper jaw.

Clear Aligners

These are orthodontic devices used to adjust the teeth. The aim of these devices is to correct poorly positioned teeth. This helps to optimize the bite and improve the patient’s appearance.

Aligners help to align your teeth without the need for screws, brackets or clasps. To correct dental issues, you will need to wear a biocompatible resin splint. Each splint is available in different thickness. It provides a steady increase in pressure aligning your teeth without discomfort.

One of the most popular clear aligners is Invisalign. To ensure the right fit, a 3D scan is necessary. Fitting takes a few minutes and before you know it, you will have straighter teeth and a beautiful smile.

Temporomandibular Joint Appliance

This appliance helps to correct issues brought about by temporomandibular joint disorder. Symptoms of the disorder include cracking, popping sounds and facial muscle spasms.

The TMJ device works by reducing pressure on the patient’s jaw joints. This helps to realign the bite. An example of a TMJ appliance is a stabilization splint. Also called a bite guard, its a hard dental device made of acrylic resin. As such, it prevents contact between the upper and lower teeth.

Retainers

The function of retainers is to prevent a relapse from occurring. This is where the teeth move back to their original position after treatment. To ensure the teeth remain in a new position, it takes 4 to 6 months.

There are two types

Permanent and Removable

Permanent retainers consist of a wire bonded behind the lower front teeth. This helps to keep the teeth in their new position since its the area where relapse occurs the most. Removal retainers are custom designed by a lab technician. Made from clear plastic sheet, it has a tight fit and helps to hold your teeth in position.

Space Maintainers

A space maintainer is a custom made dental appliance made of metal or acrylic. The device can be cemented in the patient’s mouth or it can be removable. Its purpose is to ensure space remains open allowing the permanent tooth to erupt and fill the space. If the space maintainer is not used, the child’s teeth can shift into the open space.

In case your child loses his baby teeth prematurely, the permanent tooth can erupt into the empty space. When more permanent teeth are ready to erupt, there will be no more room. Why? The space available will be lost. To prevent this, a space maintainer holds the space left by a missing tooth.

There are two types of space maintainers:

Fixed and Removable

Fixed space maintainers are available in four designs – crown and loop, unilateral, distal shoe and lingual. For both the crown and loop plus the unilateral space maintainers, they are placed on one side of the mouth. This helps to keep the space open.

A removable space maintainer is an orthodontic device that keeps a space open. Like a retainer, it is commonly used among older children. Why? Because they can remember to take the removable space maintainer out and place it back.

Braces

As one of the most popular orthodontic treatments, they help to align and straighten the teeth. They also correct underbites, deep bites, overbites, crossbite and malocclusions.

There are three types of braces

Metal Braces, Ceramic Braces, and Lingual Braces.

Metal braces consist of metal brackets and wires. Compared to previous models, modern metal braces are much smaller and less noticeable. Designed with new heat activated archwires, they use the patient’s body heat to align the teeth. Also, they do so without any pain. Compared with other braces, they are the least expensive.

Ceramic braces are similar in size and shape to metal braces except for the clear brackets. As such, they are less noticeable compared to metal braces. Thanks to tooth-colored wires, they help to restore your self-esteem and confidence.

Lingual braces are like metal braces but the placement of wires and brackets is on the inside of the teeth.

Lip Bumper

Designed to correct a dentition, this device has an archwire with plastic attached to it. The archwire is placed on the patient’s molars while the plastic is on the front teeth. Also called a cheek bumper, it can help to correct the lower molars bite.

In case there is a likelihood that the molars will move when the second molars come in, the lip bumper can hold the molars in their original position. This allows the erupting teeth to reach full maturity.

After this happens, full braces help to extend the treatment. What you need to know is that a lip bumper can also be used to hold molars together. This prevents the molars from messing each other as you bite.

If the molars are misaligned, they will scratch the enamel off each other when chewing. If there is a lot of crowding, the lip bumper helps to keep the cheek or lips of the teeth.

Finding the Right Orthodontic Treatment

Finding the right orthodontic treatment seems like a mammoth task. With careful consideration, you can receive the best treatment. Factors to consider include experience, types of treatment, reputation and many payment options. By taking into account the factors above, you will receive the best care at an affordable price.

Dentures Kennewick WA

Important Facts You Need to Know About Dentures in Kennewick WA

Poor oral health care, periodontal disease, and accidents can lead to missing teeth. This is a big problem for your health. For starters, it will be difficult for you to eat healthy foods such as fruits, nuts, and seeds. Second, conversing with others will be awkward. Why? In your mind, you imagine the worst when people notice your missing teeth. This can affect your self-esteem and confidence.

The good news is that you can fix this and continue leading a normal life. What Best dentures Kennewick WA has to offer is the ideal solution to replace the missing teeth.

What are dentures?

Commonly referred to as false teeth, dentures are biocompatible and removable dental components designed to replace missing teeth. If you have lost all your natural teeth, dentures can improve your appearance and health.

Missing teeth can affect your facial muscles. How? Facial muscles sag as the support provided by the missing teeth is no longer available. This leaves you looking older than your actual age. To improve your appearance and regain your self-esteem, choose the best dentures Kennewick WA has to offer.

Designed to closely resemble natural teeth, dentures can improve your smile and your appearance too.

Types of dentures

Now that you have chosen dentures as the best solution to replace your missing teeth, it is important to know what options are available to you.

Full dentures

Also referred to as conventional dentures, they are full coverage dental prosthetic devices designed to replace missing teeth. Crafted after the gum tissue has healed, full dentures are ready for placement after 8 to 12 weeks.

You also have immediate full dentures. Unlike conventional dentures which are made after the gum tissue heals, immediate dentures are molded in advance. They are placed immediately the teeth have been removed. As such, the patient will not have to wait for 8 to 12 weeks after teeth removal. What you need to know is that gums and bones shrink during healing. So, immediate dentures cannot be used as a permanent solution but a temporary one before conventional dentures are placed.

Partial Dentures

Partial dentures are removable dental prosthetic devices consisting of replacement teeth. The teeth are attached to gum-colored bases made from plastic. To ensure partial dentures are secured in the mouth, they are fitted with a metal framework.

Unlike full dentures which are used to replace the loss of natural teeth, partial dentures are used to replace one or more natural teeth. For a single tooth, the dentist will place a crown on the teeth to act as a fixed bridge. To secure the bridge, the dentist cements it in place. As such, the teeth will not move unexpectedly.

You have precision partial dentures. Even though they are removable, they have internal attachments and not clasps.

Implant supported dentures

This is a type of denture or overdenture supported by implants. Unlike a regular denture which is supported by a metal framework or clasps, implant dentures have implants just like dental implants.

The cost of implant supported dentures is on the higher side but they resemble natural teeth. You have two types of implant supported dentures — bar retained and ball retained dentures.

Bar-retained dentures have a thin metal bar. This bar follows the curve of your jaw. It is normally attached to two or more implants which are clipped in place by attachments. Ball-retained dentures have a metal attachment fitted onto another attachment. The attachments are ball-shaped and fit into sockets on the denture.

How Dentures Kennewick WA are made

The process of making dentures takes several weeks. First, the patient has to make an appointment with the dentist. At the dentist’s office, he or she will make impressions of the jaw. From the measurements, the dentist will also determine the space needed.

Second, the dentist will use the measurements to create models and wax forms of the dentures. During this time, the dentist will request you to make several visits. He or she will asses the shape, fit and color.

Later, the final denture is cast before fitting is done.

Why choose dentures Kennewick WA?

Missing teeth are cosmetically frustrating. Imagine spending time with family or friends and every time someone cracks a joke, you can’t smile or laugh. To change this, you need the best dentures Kennewick WA has to offer.

Improves your appearance

Missing teeth can cause your facial muscles to sag. This affects your appearance as you end up looking older. The reason why your facial muscles sag is the lack of support previously provided by your missing teeth. If you don’t want to have the “witchy look,” talk to your Kennewick WA dentist. The right dentures can reverse facial aging.

Apart from that, they can help to reduce the lines around the mouth, reduce lines on your face, and increase the fullness of your lips. Dentures can strengthen and make your cheekbones more prominent and firm your neck and jawline.

Restores your diet functionality

Foods such as fruits are packed with nutrients and minerals beneficial to the growth and development of our bodies. When we lose teeth as a result of an accident or dental disease, it becomes hard to eat. As such, you will begin to forgo certain foods. Change in your diet can affect your health. How? Your body will miss out on vital nutrients and minerals. This will surely affect your immune system. A weak immune system makes it easy for diseases to attack your body. To improve your health, you may want to consider dentures.

Restores your self-esteem

Having a “witchy look” and missing teeth can make it difficult for you to socialize with others. Every time someone says something funny, you will opt to smile unnaturally. This is not the best way to lead your life. To restore your self-esteem and confidence, consider dentures. Available options include full and partial dentures. You also have implant supported dentures and they look good. Best choice you will ever make.

Caring for your dentures Kennewick WA

Like your natural teeth, dentures also need daily maintenance to stay clean and bacteria free. To keep your dentures clean, here is what you need to do:

  • Use a soft brush and a denture cleaning solution to remove bacteria and food particles. This also prevents the build-up of tartar and plaque. After cleaning, rinse your dentures thoroughly.
  • Avoid using toothpaste, mouthwashes, and house cleaners. The chemicals used to formulate these agents can be too hard on the dentures. Always check the seal of approval before purchasing the cleaning agent.
  • Keep your gums, tongue, and mouth clean when not wearing your dentures. Use a soft bristled brush to clean your tongue and gums.
  • When not wearing your dentures, place them in a cleaning solution. Not doing so can dry the dentures or they may lose shape. For the best solution, consult your Kennewick WA dentist.

What Qualifies as a Dental emergency?

Dental emergencies can happen at any time. However, not many people understand what qualifies as a dental emergency. Learning more about dental emergencies prepares you for any mishaps and allows you to take immediate action — visiting the best emergency dentist Tri-Cities WA has.

Tooth fracture

One of the most common dental emergencies is a fractured tooth. A tooth can fracture when playing sports such as basketball or rugby. It can also fracture when you fall off your bike or during a dental procedure.

When a tooth fractures, the nerves are exposed. This leads to a lot of pain and it can be hard to drink hot or cold liquids or even eat solid food. If immediate medical attention is not taken, infections can arise.

To prevent tooth fractures when playing contact sports such as soccer, rugby or basketball, it is advisable to wear a custom-fitted mouthguard.

Oral infection

Oral infection is another dental emergency that requires immediate medical attention. Ludwig’s Angina is an infection which affects the underside of the tongue and the floor of the mouth. It causes swelling around the jawline and under the mouth. This can cause difficulty in breathing. If you are experiencing the symptoms above, seek immediate medical care from the best emergency dentist Tri-Cities WA has.

Why?

The bacteria from the infection can spread to the oral cavity and the pericardial tissue located around the heart.

There are other infections which can cause pain. As such, they can interfere with normal functions such as eating, chewing and sleeping. Such infections can be symptoms for advanced health conditions which can be treated by seeking emergency medical care.

Knocked out tooth or tooth avulsion

Accidents and even fights can lead to a knocked out tooth. When this happens, you will experience a sharp throbbing pain in your gum. This is followed by bleeding. To prevent infections and preserve the tooth, quick action is needed.

The first step before visiting emergency dentist Tri-Cities WA is to pick the tooth by the crown. Do not touch the root as bacteria and other germs on your fingers can be transferred to the root. Rinse the tooth with clean water, insert it into a container with milk and visit the dentist.

Abscessed tooth

An abscessed tooth is a life-threatening condition where pus in the tooth can lead to severe infections. It can also cause fever, persistent toothache, and swelling on your face. Experts have noted that it can cause tooth sensitivity and lead to pimple like bumps on your gums.

Facial cellulitis is an infection from a plaque or abscess in your teeth. The infection can cause pain and if not treated, it can spread to your face.

If the infection is not attended to immediately, it can spread to your jaw and other areas of your body too. To prevent the spread of the infection, rinse your mouth with mild salt water and visit your dentist immediately.

Toothaches

When a toothache strikes, the pain can be debilitating. A lot of people do not know that most toothaches do not happen without warning. There are signs one can watch out for. For instance, discomfort when taking hot or cold liquids or when biting down on food or candy. Other signs include irritation when flossing or brushing. If you begin sensing the above symptoms, make an appointment with an emergency dentist Tri-Cities WA immediately.

The dentist will examine your teeth for decay or signs of infection. If the decay is severe, you may be required to undergo a root canal. This procedure helps to remove the infected portion helping you feel better immediately. If you do not seek medical care, the discomfort or infection can turn to a toothache.

Irreversible pulpitis is a condition which causes pain in the tooth. Normal pulpitis ceases when the hot substance is removed. If the pain persists even after removing the hot substance, it means you have irreversible pulpitis.

Bitten tongue, lip and mouth sores

Biting your lip or tongue can cause bleeding and inflammation. Also, it can cause pain if hot liquids or food come into contact with the area. To relieve pain before heading to the dentist, use ice to stop the bleeding and also reduce the swelling.

Mouth sores are also painful and usually occur inside the mouth. They occur as a result of biting inside the mouth, stress or a reaction to food. If you develop mouth sores, you can apply over the counter medication. The medication prevents any infection. Also, it promotes healing.

Treatment Options for Dental Emergencies

Teeth can sustain damage when playing a contact sport such as basketball or soccer. Damage can also occur in accidents such as workplace injury, falling off your bike or a car accident. When your teeth suffer damage, you need to have them repaired as soon as possible.

The best emergency dentist Tri-Cities WA has can fix a chipped tooth, a cracked tooth, or a knocked out tooth. For fast results, the dentist will use dental bonding, a special resin normally placed on top of the tooth. This is shaped and hardened with a special dental light.

If the tooth has been knocked out while playing a contact sport or in an accident, we can fix it. All you have to do is pick the tooth. Make sure you do so from the top and not the root. Rinse the tooth and place it in a cup of milk. Next, visit your Tri-Cities WA dentist and there is a chance the tooth can be put back in your mouth.
